Welcome to the website of the Civil Service Commissioners
The Civil Service Commissioners are drawn from a wide variety of backgrounds, and between us we have extensive experience of management and leadership in the private, public and voluntary sectors. We are appointed by the Crown and independent of Government. Here you will find out about who we are and what we do. We have a short video which introduces us and our role.
Our Annual Report for 2009/10 is published on-line. It details our regulatory work in upholding the principle that recruitment to the Civil Service must be on merit on the basis of fair and open competition. The report also outlines the work we do in hearing appeals under the Civil Service Code - the ethical code that is part of the terms and conditions of employment of all civil servants.
This year saw the introduction of our Recruitment Principles, reflecting the continuing evolution of the Commissioners role as guardians of the principle of recruitment on merit; and the publication of a suite of web-based documents outlining our approach to hearing appelas under the Civil Service Code.
We reached a truly significant landmark in April 2010 when the Constitutional Reform and Governance Act 2010 was passed in the last days of the parliamentary session before the General Election. By the end of 2010 we will be established as a new Civil Service Commission with statutory authority for our continuing work in upholding the Civil Service values of Honesty, Integrity, Objectivity, Impartiality and appointment on merit.
We would, as always, be very pleased to hear any comments you have about our work or this website.
