Civil Service Art Competition

On 7 December 2009, Sir Gus O'Donnell, Cabinet Secretary and Head of the Home Civil Service, and Janet Paraskeva, the First Civil Service Commissioner, launched "your space", the first Civil Service Art Competition.

The competition is open to all UK civil servants.  The work must be original and can be in any medium.  It must aim to represent what it means to be a civil servant and be underpinned by the civil service values of honesty, integrity, impartiality and objectivity.

An important function of the Civil Service Commissioners is to help departments to promote the Civil Service values in the Civil Service Code.  The Commissioners were delighted therefore to be invited to sponsor a competition that provides such an imaginative way of promoting the core Civil Service values.

Closing date for entries is 31 May 2010.

The winner, to be chosen by Sir Gus O'Donnell and Janet Paraskeva, will be announced at Civil Service Live in July 2010.

First prize is an art workshop at the Royal Academy, London, or other national gallery/museum.

More details about the competition are available from the Civil Service website.
