The Commissioners issued a revised version of their Recruitment Code on 1 April.
There were two key changes to the Code.
The Code now requires departments and agencies to publicise the Commissioners’ role as regulators of recruitment into the Civil Service and to include details of the complaints procedure in the information that is provided to prospective candidates. The Commissioners have always been able to hear complaints from candidates who did not believe that the Commissioners’ recruitment principle had not been followed, but previously there was no requirement on departments and agencies to publicise this right.
The second change was a revision of the provision that allowed a time-limited exception to the principle of recruitment on merit through fair and open competition for those on government schemes to assist the long term unemployed. The change to the Code allows departments and agencies to participate in the new Local Employment Partnership scheme by extending the provision to include all unemployed people eligible for support.
